Father Arrested After Son Spends Birthday In Car

(CBS) PASSAIC, N.J. A father was arrested Sunday after leaving his toddler trapped in his car overnight in Passaic, New Jersey. The child spent nine hours alone.

Scratch marks on the glass inside the car where little Adonis Ribott was trapped for nine hours are evidence the toddler panicked as he waited to be rescued.

His father, Danny Ribott, woke up in his bed this morning, but his two-year-old son and his car were nowhere to be found.

"He didn't know where he was at,” said Rudy Ribott, the toddler’s uncle. “He didn't know where his son was at."

"He don't remember," said Agustina Ribott, the child’s Grandmother. Possibly because “he was drinking beer."

Danny Ribott was celebrating his son's second birthday. Family members say he drank so much he parked blocks away from the house and forgot Adonis in the car.

"Unfortunately one drink too much," said Rudy Ribott. The child’s mother who preferred not to be named felt it was "one too many."

Nine hours later the toddler's other grandparents joined the search and they found the Lexus in a nearby parking lot with Adonis trapped inside with nothing but potato chips to keep him alive.

"They stop at the red light and that's when they spotted the car," said Agustina Ribott.

A footprint on the outside of the car window was visible where someone clearly tried to break the passenger window with his or her foot. Also in the upper left corner some impact marks were seen where someone tried to use something else to shatter the passenger window.

Passaic Police were about to break the glass when the father showed up with the keys. The toddler was taken to St. Joseph's hospital where he was treated for dehydration and heat exhaustion.

His father was taken to jail for endangering the welfare of a child.

"Maybe one too many [drinks], said Rudy Ribott. “Mother's Day, holidays and everything, things happen." When asked if his brother might have a drinking problem and needed help, Ribott said simply “No.”

The mother of the child, felt differently. "Well after this I think so," she said.
