John Hughes' imprint remains

Ugh, I started a new job so I've been super busy. As a result, I'm too tired to write an actual update at the moment.

Here's a GREAT article about the man who brought us staples of film, such as Sixteen Candles and Breakfast Club, John Hughes.

Anti-Gay Speech

Everyone and their mother has probably seen this video by now, but in case you missed it, please watch. It's a speech by Oklahoma State Representative Sally Kern that she didn't know was being recorded. I'm also posting a link to the CNN video where she refuses to apologize. Some people, ugh.

Wet-Back Wednesdays

So, I love whenever Pittsburgh is mentioned on CNN. I've been following this story over the last few weeks and even walked by the Garage Door Saloon last week just to see the sign. All I'm going to say is some people are really stupid and don't think before they do something. If this was any other part of the country, there would have been a much bigger uproar.

$750,000... Really? Trent Reznors Got Proof!

Now if only the coyote would have ever tried one of his plans twice I bet ya they would have needed a new co-star. Trent Reznor though, was not afraid despite the flopped experiment in free music (according to R himself, but I didn't like it much anyway). I can see where he would be heated after the money earned didn't cover production cost. Like all great scientist artist who want to prove any thesis, he gave it another shot to the expert aim of $750,000 in 3 days. Craziest part is that was all from the sale of the $300 dollar limited edition package! oh and did I mention you can download the album for free!

Download: GIMME' GHOST I-IV, GIMME' IT!

Great read (check it your self)

Antidepressants Hardly Help

It feels like it's been awhile since I've seriously posted about medicine and science. I mean, lunar eclipse, eh. It was cool, but over quickly. This however makes my skin tingle. Some of you may remember this article I posted last September. In it I stated my lack of support for anti-depressants and the like. Well, this article made me beam with pride. I can't talk too in depth about this because someone close to me is involved with one of the pharmaceutical companies mentioned. I would hate to cause them strife. However, I see this as a step in the right direction.

Does Experience Matter in a President?

Christopher Morris / VII for TIME

So, I got some guff for my last political outing here, but to hell with it. I read this article on Time's website. I thought it was appropriate and somewhat different from where I was trying to go with this entry. The author David Von Drehle makes some wonderful points about charisma not being everything, but also says that neither is experience. He covered the topic in a very diplomatic manner and it is really worth the read.

Oh, and while I'm at it, I have another link for the informed voter. If you are really keeping up with what's going on in Washington, you may have already heard of this little site. It's based on a real place and named after a real person. What might this amazing link be? A link to Thomas, the Library of Congress! I was inspired to share this with you based on another bloggers entry about why she is supporting Obama and the research she did.

Is that enough links for you guys? Do you think you can handle it? I have faith in you, trust me.

Man Stabs Movie Theater Patrons at Horror Movie

This is taken from another blog so I'm not going to write too much about it and recommend that you jump over there and check it out. I do have one comment, though. WHAT THE FUCK? I hate going to the theater to see movies to begin with. Now I think they may have to start paying ME to get me in there.

China Eats Crow Over Faked Photo Of Rare Antelope

This might just be the secret fan girl in me, but this article really reminds me of part of the plot of Spiderman 3. If you haven't seen it, Eddie Brock, who later becomes Venom, steals and edits a photo of Peter Parker's to make Spiderman look bad for the Daily Bugle. Now, take that same scenario and replace Eddie Brock with Liu Weiqing and the Daily Bugle with the Chinese Government. Then instead of trying to make something look bad, Liu Weiqing wanted everyone to think the Chinese government was protecting the wildlife all while having this kickass high speed train in their habitat.

Oh, propaganda, how I love you. The Wall Street Journal has a blown up version of the photograph that shows all the edits, in case you're interested in the wonders of photoshop. Also, if you look at this really bad photoshop job in passing, it makes you kind of wonder how many things are photoshoped really well that have never been caught. Think on it.

Free Voicemail for the Homeless!

In an astounding charitable motion Marvin Gaye couldn't have dreamed of, Google is giving the San. Fran. homeless inhabitants free phone number's and voicemail... for life! These accounts which will be owned by the participating , can be checked from any phone.

"How do you communicate as a homeless individual? " Newsom asked. "How do you expect your life to turn around /if someone can't even get in touch with you?"

If this works out, we should be seeing this in other major cities throughout the US. It's amazing to finally have reached a point in technological advancements that give back, be it the earth or the people.

So I have this idea

Wow, you guys responded so wonderfully to me adding Mike to AC that I have some more news.

Not only are we adding another author, the wonderful Brandon Kelly, but we came to a wonderful conclusion last night.

What if we made AC into an internet commune for those interested in sharing the stories they find? I personally think it's a GREAT idea and thus this is what is going to happen.

So, here goes. If you read the news or keep your ear to the ground about interesting current events and would like to be involved, let me know!

You can either reply to this or e-mail me at hayeskel@gmail.com. I need the e-mail address you would like used as your log in. I would also like you to send a link to a current item you find interesting with a short blurb about it.

I haven't been this excited about the blog in some time, as I might have told everyone within hearing range last night.

Because I'd like a ton of people to be involved, don't hesitate if you don't think you'll be able to update every day. Hell, you all know how terrible I can be about that. I know that even with the 3 of us writing now it has taken some of the pressure off. It's also a nice surprise to wake up and find the blog was updated while you were sleeping!

So there you have it. Get excited because I'm totally geeked out. Just picture this little kid is me.
